Hermannsdenkmal

What would a visit to the Land des Hermann be without the way to the Hermann Monument, one of the most famous monuments in Germany, on the 386 m high mountain Grotenburg near Detmold?

It commemorates the battle in the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD and was completed in 1875 by Ernst von Bandel after 37 years of construction. Today the Hermann monument with its total height of 53.46 m is a memorial for peace and international understanding. More than 500,000 visitors come every year to experience the Hermann Monument up close and enjoy the 360-degree view over Lippe.

Guided tours with the possibility to take a look inside the statue, a visit to the monument platform and the Bandelhütte are a top experience for the whole family.

The Waldbühne offers a unique setting for cultural events and the popular “Moonlight Cinema”.
