Johannissteine Lage

Nature discovery trail
In 1926, thin-section investigations by the universities of Münster, Greifswald and Upsala (Sweden) established that the Johannissteine most probably originated in the area of the Aland Islands, between the cities of Stockholm and Turku (Finland) (Spiekerkötter, Jahrb. Nat. Wiss. Verein, Bielefeld). The erratic blocks arrived in our area in the course of the largest glaciation in Northern Europe during the Saale Ice Age; approx. 200,000 years ago. (Neumann, 1983)

Detailed information is available in the flyers "Johannissteine als Kultstätte" and "Johannissteine als vor (früh) geschichtliche Kalenderanlage?". Both are available free of charge from the tourist office.

Free admission, free guided tours on request at the tourist office.
