The route starts at Hornsche Straße (Neustadt), then runs through the Palaisgarten and past the LWL open-air museum in the direction of Heiligenkirchen. In Heiligenkirchen, the Alte Postweg crosses Paderborner Straße and leads past Krugplatz into "Hohlen Weg", a side street in the direction of Berlebeck. In Berlebeck, the path then leads past the paper mill and into the Berlebeck forest (Johannaberg) as far as Berlebeckerheide. Here the Alte Postweg joins the Niedersachsenweg X6 . In a straight direction to the south, the path leads up to the Großer Gauseköterberg (367 m). In this area, the Lönspfad X10 is added, which leads together with the Altem Postweg through the closed forest area to the destination, the Kreuzkrug.
