EFRE - In Teutoburger Wald

Project ‘Model Region for Sustainable Tourism Teutoburg Forest (MoNaTour)“

The project focuses on developing the region as a sustainable travel destination and creating a guiding vision for the Teutoburg Forest.

It takes into account the region’s defined target group — the Adaptive Pragmatic Middle Sinus Milieu — for whom a commitment to sustainability is expected to be a key criterion in choosing a travel destination.

A central component of the project is to create the necessary conditions for TourCert certification for the districts within the Teutoburg Forest destination.

Further implementation-oriented measures include:

  • digital visitor management,
  • strengthening public transport,
  • integrating regional producers and products into the tourism service chain,
  • and making natural phenomena accessible and tangible for people with disabilities.

Another important aspect of the project is the transfer of knowledge on sustainability through seminars, an e-learning platform and product development workshops, as well as fostering cooperation both within and beyond the region.

Finally, communication of the developed products and measures represents another key element of the project.

The project is supported by a broad partnership network coordinated by Teutoburger Wald Tourismus (a division of OWL GmbH) in close collaboration with the responsible tourism organisations of the districts of OstWestfalenLippe and the independent city of Bielefeld.
