Burg Schwalenberg

The origins of the mighty hilltop castle, situated on a mountain spur above the village of Schwalenberg, date back to the 13th century. The formerly closed castle complex with palas, keep, chapel, gate tower and farm buildings, which were protected by a castle wall, fell into disrepair after the Schwalenberg dynasty died out.

In 1627/1628 and at the beginning of the 20th century, a thorough renovation took place.

The sweeping view of the surrounding countryside from the castle is impressive. In the castle courtyard is the "Roland figure", designed by the artist Friedrich Eicke, which commemorates Schwalenberg's municipal privileges.
