The so-called Oesterholz hunting lodge was built by Count Simon VI of Lippe in 1598 to replace a medieval farmstead. All that remains of the original Renaissance building complex today is the former count's residence. Modern buildings have been added to it and it now serves as a district retirement home. An expression of the Baroque need for representation is the Fürstenallee to the east, which was laid out around 1720.
