Friedhof Stapelage

Cemetery
The original cemetery for the communities of Augustdorf, Hörste, Pivitsheide and Stapelage existed until 1879.
In 1879, a new church cemetery was established on a piece of parish land for the parishes of Stapelage and Billinghausen. This cemetery was later extended as more and more burials were added. In 1960, the cemetery was almost full and the parish planned a new cemetery in a quieter location due to the increase in road traffic. But things turned out differently. The political communities of Billinghausen and Hörste took over the cemetery and leased a piece of parish land for the construction of a new cemetery with the obligation to take over the old cemetery as well. The parish granted the political parishes the right to carry out all Christian burials of the Protestant and Catholic churches from the church to Stapelage. Funeral services for the deceased who do not belong to these two churches are held in the mortuary's storage room.

The Stapelage estate is the only estate in the municipality of Stapelage to have state permission to maintain a private cemetery for its owners' families.
