Pfarrkirche St. Michael

Church
The Catholic parish church of St. Michael, built in 1955, is located on Marktstraße in Oerlinghausen.

Significant artists have worked on the church. Berthold Müller-Oerlinghausen donated one of his most important works to his home parish alongside the copper-plated church portals, the tabernacle doors and the Diogenes in the church square: "Christ's anguish on the Mount of Olives".

Vinzenz Pieper, Berlin, created the large south window;Max Faller, Munich, the Easter chandelier; H. G. Bücker, Vellern, the triumphal cross; Josef Rikus, Paderborn, the "Father Schulte Cross" erected between two baroque figures in memory of the world-famous "Flying Father".

The Oerlinghauer Iconic Way of the Cross by Katharina Sitnikova-Peters, Paderborn, is the first of its kind and is considered an artistic rarity worldwide. It is dedicated to the memory of the first pastor of the new Catholic community, Father Kilian Kirchhoff, who was executed in 1944, and has become an ecumenical sign of reconciliation between the churches of the East and West that has attracted attention beyond Germany.
