Länderwaldpark Silvaticum Bad Meinberg

A botanical world tour through 14 forest landscapes of the earth

.

At the end of the 1950s, Bad Meinberg considered expanding the park facilities. The three existing ones were no longer sufficient due to the enormous increase in the number of spa guests. The state forester Dr. Splettstößer had the idea of creating a completely new spa park for Germany, a country forest park, arranged according to different landscapes of the world. His aim was to bring together as many foreign trees and shrubs as possible in this park in order to demonstrate the compatibility and vitality of the different species in our region. Seven of the forest landscapes are native to Central and Southern Europe, and four North American and two East Asian forest landscapes were also created. The fourteenth area, which was created later, originates from the Caucasus. Dr. Splettstößer coined the term "Silvaticum", derived from the Latin "silva" (forest), for the new national forest. 36,000 trees and shrubs were planted over an area of around 12 hectares.
