Experience point on the Lügder Mythenweg
So the legend goes: After his victorious battle against the Romans, Hermann the Cheruscan prince returned to Herlingsburg Castle. He was tired - and he longed for peace and a good life for himself and his companions. But it was here, deep underground, that the dwarves lived. They had hoarded enormous treasures in the caves and tunnels. One night during the full moon, the mountain opened up a narrow gap - just wide enough for a human to slip through. Pearls, golden apples and many other treasures shimmered in the moonlight. Hermann stared spellbound at the sparkling opening. He stood up and slipped through the gap into the mountain as if guided by a strange hand. He had never seen a treasure like this before: Lilies of silver and roses of gold bloomed in the underground gardens. Glittering diamonds and glowing red rubies lay neatly piled up on the walls of the caves. Intoxicated, Hermann wandered through the corridors and forgot that the entrance could close again. And so it happened. At dawn, a spell cast by the dwarves made the opening disappear. For an infinitely long time.
But whoever stands in this exact spot at the right hour, the mountain will open up for them. And he can climb down and take as much of the treasures as he likes. And who knows: maybe he will meet old Hermann, who is waiting for his return....
