Leopoldspring in the spa park of Bad Salzuflen
Visit the landmark of the city of Bad Salzuflen - the Leopoldsprudel!
Bad Salzuflen only became a spa due to the Leopoldsprudel, which was drilled in 1904/06. Today, it is often recognized by its fountain structure. The godfather of the Leopoldsprudel is the last reigning prince of Lippe, Leopold IV (1871 to 1949).
At the end of October 1905, drilling work began, which already led to the hoped-for success on March 2, 1906. From a depth of 534 meters, the first carbonated thermal spring of Salzuflen gushed forth at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, producing 1,500 to 2,000 liters per minute. This "Altthermal" has an outlet temperature of 21.7 degrees Celsius, a mineral content of 7.1 percent, and 1,298 milligrams per kilogram of carbon dioxide content. Its main inflow comes from a depth of 404 meters from the middle Muschelkalk.
The Leopoldsprudel is a popular photographic motif in the spa park for young and old alike.
