Experience point on the Lügder Mythenweg
Once upon a time there was a bailiff from Lügden, also known as the "Känzler". Some days he couldn't help himself and had to play a trick on the farmers. Sometimes he spooked the horses so that they raced away. Other times he would grab the spokes of the wagon wheels and hold the vehicle in place. The Lügden farmers were furious. "We don't want your pranks," they shouted and chased the Känzler out of the village. Out of fear, he hid underneath the Herlingsburg castle. When he died, his spirit was still not at rest. He was always up to mischief right here in the area of the large spring pond. When a farmer with his horse and cart passed this spot, it could happen that his horses would bolt. The farmer would then grab an axe and hit the front of the drawbar with it, believing it to be the head of the dancer. "Ha, now I've got you, you old scoundrel," he shouted triumphantly. But no one succeeded in putting a stop to the Känzler. That's why the peasants eventually gave this place a wide berth. But if you don't know the story and ride here, your horse may still be spooked today. And the old people then say: "See, it was the Känzler again."
