Experience point on the Lügder Mythenweg

A long time ago, Hermann the Cheruscan prince and his retinue had their farmstead here in the forest around Herlingsburg Castle. A beautiful young woman with long, golden hair also lived there. She was one of Hermann's maidservants. One morning, while fetching water, she met a handsome warrior. The two fell in love. They roamed the woods together. Night after night, they lay close together, protected by the velvety blue sky and the glittering stars. "This time should never end," the young woman wished every morning at sunrise and every evening at sunset. But one day there was great unrest in the camp. And word spread quickly: "The time has come. Hermann wants to go into battle against the Romans." The warrior took his beloved in his arms: "I'll be back soon, I promise." Then he left. The beautiful maiden stood at the gate for a long time and watched him go. There was no end to her tears.

Weeks went by. The young woman went to the gate every day and kept an eye out. She hoped and feared, but her lover never returned. A year passed. And then another and another. Shiny silver strands of white were now running through her hair - but she didn't give up. She told everyone: "He's coming back. He promised." One bitterly cold winter night, she fell asleep forever. But her heart still hasn't found peace. Night after night, she wanders in search of her lover. When the moonlight shimmers on her white hair, you can see her right here. And sometimes you can hear a whisper in the wind: "He's coming back, he promised."
