At dusk, the sphere glows a brilliant blue. The installation connects the exterior and interior. The sphere appears to roll off the stele and hop over the glass plates in the floor into the interior. This cheerful gesture and the implied movement create a connection between art and architecture. By illuminating the sphere in the dark, the surrounding space becomes perceptible in a new way: the light creates a connection between the building and the street space and at this point visually points beyond the inner city area. The sculpture is made of steel, fiberglass, glass and light sources. The stele, including the sphere, is 4.60 m high and the diameter of the floor glass panels is between 20 and 50 cm.
The sculpture was created by Gabriele Staarmann, born in 1964, who studied at the University of Fine Arts Kassel, the University of Osnabrück, the University of Hamburg and the University of Zurich. She has taught at the Braunschweig University of Art, the Magdeburg University of Applied Sciences, the Enschede Academy of Art, the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. Her work focuses on light installations, objects and panel paintings.Good to know
