Papiermühle Plöger

For almost 300 years the pure and soft water of the Niese near Schieder served the Plöger family for paper production. The paper mill building has existed for about the same period of time, since 1703. From the second half of the 19th century onwards, the invention of the paper machine led to the mass production of paper by machine. Like many other smaller paper manufacturers, the Plöger family had to adapt to the changed economic conditions in the course of industrialisation. Production was thus switched from handmade paper to cardboard for folders. Today the restored Plöger’s Paper Mill presents itself as a vivid museum for the presentation of paper production around 1900, showing almost the completely preserved technical equipment in the production rooms. Individual machines can be demonstrated.
