Dutch windmill in Kalletal-Bentorf

On the outskirts of Bentorf, the only still operational windmill in Lippe greets you far into the Kalletal hilly landscape.

In 1889 the miller Ohsiek built his mill at this particularly suitable location. The fuselage, built of quarry stones, was given a height of 14 m.

Inside, the beams extending across the mill carry all the functional parts important for the grinding process such as shafts, comb wheels, spindles, grinding stones, lifters, etc.. Except for the stones, they are also made of wood.

After extensive repair measures have been carried out, the last commercially operated windmill gives the visitor a vivid picture of the old miller’s trade.
