Furlbachtal nature reserve
This nature reserve is an almost pure forest area. On the inland dunes, pines determine the forest area. Near-natural forest communities of birches, alders, oaks and beeches are found on the bottom and at the heights of the Furlbachtal.
The entire area offers with dunes, brook valley and dry valleys an impressive natural scenery with a primeval forest character. Black Woodpecker, Kingfisher, Water Dipper and Mountain Wagtail live in this landscape. Rare plant species find habitats here to which they are specially adapted, such as the cotton grass and sundew in the moors and the giant horsetail at spring outlets.
On-site there is a circular hiking trail with a nature trail. The accompanying brochure is available at the Biological Station and in the town halls of Augustdorf and Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock.
